Accountability during COVID

Sup Muses!?

What a time? Amirite? I’ve been working from home since March 10th and although I have a part-time job, life was definitely thrown off balance as I tried to adjust to working from home and staying indoors for the majority of my time. My husband stopped going to work (commuting to and from NYC) 2 weeks ago as well. He uses his office, and I use the dining room table as my dedicated work space. It’s not particularly cute or organized, but it gets the job done.

On Sat. March 28th, I planned to have an accountability event, and like every event across the entire United States, it’s been canceled. What I’ve been struggling with now, is How do I start an accountability conversation and open that door to having that intimate authentic discussion virtually? I’m still not sure and I really want to figure it out, but In the meantime, I can tell you some of my goals over the next month (because let’s be real, we’re going to be sheltering in place for that long.) My most important goals are to:

  1. Get out and walk every single day regardless of the weather. Over the past 2 weeks, I’ve learned that when I don’t go out, I am a miserable sluggish shell of myself.

  2. Maintain a consistent morning regimen/routine. I’ll actually do a post about the importance of a morning routine and how I’ve found it helped me. When you start working from home, it’s a different feel than going into the office. It’s possible to roll over in your bed and answer emails while in your bonnet with funky breathe all day. I’ve found that it’s all fun and games until a few days in and the novelty of working for home wears off.

I get up earlier then I need, an ideal morning has my alarm going off at 6:40ish and I’ll roll out of bed around 7am with literally 2 hours of a morning routine most days..haha! 😅

Enough about me, let’s get back to accountability. I’ve asked my husband to make sure I get outside every day and shared with a group chat I need to drink more water. (I have been STRUGGLIN’!) I can be anyone’s buddy just let me know what I need to check in with you about and the frequency, and I’ll do it.

What does structure look like now when so many of us have a schedule that is much more lax? Conversely, some of us are much busier now, how are you creating balance in your life? How do you maintain healthy habits? How can you keep yourself and other accountable? I’m trying to figure this out and when I do, I’ll pass it along. Tell me how we can help each other (and you) be accountable to our own respective goals.
